Trail Route & Characteristics
- Via Ranu Pani (Lumajang): Ranu Pani is the main starting point for the trek to Ranu Kumbolo on the Semeru route. The trail isn't dominated by extreme climbs like the sections leading to higher parts of Semeru, but it is fairly long. That makes stamina, pacing, hydration, and weather conditions the key things to watch. The total distance is around 10 km, with a typical hiking time of 5–6 hours.
Best Time to Hike
May – September (Peak Dry Season): The best time to go, with clear skies, little fog, and a great chance of a perfect golden sunrise (note: nights and mornings can be extremely cold, down to freezing).
